**For the Greater Good of God**
I've been listening to Iron Maiden's For the Greater Good of God on repeat the whole day today. I must say I enjoy it fully- The riffs, licks, solos and especially the lyrics.
As usual, Iron maiden's lyrics are ever so thought-provoking. I think this song is about the thoughts of people living through war and battles. Their two cents worth includes the easy decision of war made by political figures, backed by pagan faith and hypocritical promises. The people under these politician's influence are all desperately searching for answers- spiritual answers to set them free. Iron Maiden really did a great job in portraying their thoughts and emotions.
The riffs play well with your emotions too. Like most typical Iron Maiden song, it starts with a slow, mellow playing that builds up to a heavily distorted riff and then end low. Together with the angst in Bruce's tone and the angry guitar riff that intensify during the song, you can somehow "feel" the lyrics come alive. You can virtually identify with the mental (and physical) turmoil of the people who are going through what is sung.
I especially like the lyrics at the end of the song. Here's what it says:
He gave his life for us he fell upon the cross
To die for all of those who never mourn his loss
It wasn't meant for us to feel the pain again
It reminded me of God's unconditional love and His promise for those who believe. This confirmed what I told my brother during Easter too. We were having a heart-to-heart talk at night, when I told him the unconditional Love of Christ. Jesus died for the soldiers and the ones who plotted His death. He died in our place so that we who believe would be set free.
